All,

We have been online at http://terrapreta.bioenergylists.org now for almost
three months. We have 100 members in the discussion list and dozens of files
and references on the site. It has been good to see how enthusiastic and
generous participants have been with stories and pictures. Not only do we
have some lively discussions but we also have activities going on in the
field both in making char and preparing field trials.

As you look at the website please look at the menus under each of the major
tabs. Next to most of the menu items you will see the number of stories or
references that have been tagged with a particular author's name,
organization, topic or term. Select the item to retrieve the stories. Help
us identify terms, stories, studies, references, pictures or sources of
information that can build a useful library of experience in the practical
use of terra preta.

Once you have logged onto the site and been approved by the site
administrator your name appears on the navigation bar (right sidebar). Then
you can enter your own pictures and stories. Using the "Create Content"
command write a "story" (Create image, Create story) or give send us the
story with a link to information that you find useful. Follow the "Compose
tips" (under your name in the navigation bar.) When you enter "Submit" the
story will come to us for review. We check the formatting (and dump spam).
Then we "publish" it to the site. We're on the US Pacific coast so give us a
day or so to process a story.

Once you have logged in you can also add comments or information to existing
stories.

If you have a large number of images, send them to us and we'll put them in
a "Gallery".

We welcome bibliographical references. You can enter references manually
using Create Content->Biblio. Large numbers of references can be entered
using the Endnote program. Either upload the references or send us the
Endnote file and we will upload it.

Applying terra preta will require a cooperative effort between land owners,
land managers, gardeners, landscapers, nurserymen and farmers (large and
small holders), char producers, academic and field research organizations,
and government. We hope that this site and discussion group can help make
your projects flourish.

Thanks to Erich Knight, Michael Bailis and Ron Larson for getting this
project started and coordinating the discussion. And thanks to you all for
your contributions.

Regards,
