Hi Michael,

Yes indeed, pathetic as best, self-serving in reality.  The Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standard has been stagnant for at least 20 years ...

Actually, it had a little blip DOWNWARD from 1984 to 1990.  Auto makers have a disincentive to make cars more fuel economic for two reasons, I think.  One, oil companies control automakers.  Two, they have the inertia of large inventories of high fuel burning vehicles, which would be made obsolete if they were to make cars which had higher mileages.  Did you ever notice, that when the automakers come out with high mileage vehicles, they are buckets?  They are gutless , little vehicles?  They promote power (HEMI engines) and perfomance.
