  You might ask why not just burn the biomass instead of making oil? I think the answer is that they are in the business of selling a bio oil technology.

  Because the world does not turn on Thermodynamics but on economic realities. 
   
  Coal = < $2/mBTU or 2 pennies/lb. 
   
  Petroleum products like diesel = >$20/mBTU or ~50 pennies/lb.
   
  It doesnt take a CPA to figure out which market to go after. Which is why Dynamotive are adding char to fuel, to increase the value of the char more than the present marketvalue of charcoal.
