[Terrapreta] This is a very clear, concise, well written article on the basic concepts of Terra preta.

Hi Joe, Michael, and Lou,

I'm sorry. It was Lou Gold (not Joe Ferguson) who mentioned about the "spore bombs". Would you follow this up with some of the Terra Preta researchers, Lou?

Regards,

SKB

  Hi Joe,

I heard the argument and it makes sense to me ... Time travel is not now possible. If it were ever going to be possible in the futre, don't you think we would have met time travelers by now? Dr. Who is a great character (but a fictional one).

I still like the idea you brought here the other day, about clay pottery being a great culture media for fungus and it being used a "spore bomb".

Keep following that up. Talk to a soil scientist. Talk to Christoph Steiner who was in Brazil standing in Terra Preta, and or Dr. Johannes Lehmann from Cornell (they are both on this list) about getting some simple research done on the possibility that clay pottery actually can inoculate soil with beneficial Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi.

So much for my "legend" about how this came about.

The question remains: did the pottery sherds play this accidental role in how the effect was discovered, or did further experimentation on the part of these ancients demonstrate (to their satisfaction) that the baked clay was a necessary part of the mixture?
