Richard and Tom,

Thanks for your replies. I just found them in the Yahoo spam folder. I'll have to be more careful.

Jim

Thanks Tom.

Seems strange that Fourth Corner Nursery doesn't know how much charcoal they applied . . . maybe they don't want to tell anyon

I'm preparing a report on our first year plot studies which will take a while to get done. TP list will have the report when this happens. Our charcoal dosage was to bring total carbon (OM + added charcoal ) to something less than 10%. We determined this to be a maximum dose and not a dose for large scale application.

Here is this charcoal laid out in the 17' plots before tilling in and after tilling.

Presently we have harvested the entire set of plots with a lifter shaker removing all root and above ground materials. The plots were then fall seeded with a second crop of Indian plum (Oemleria cerasiformis) which is a native shrub that is an ecological indicator for nitrogen rich soils. No additional fertilizer or other additives will be used in this experiment which is expected to continue for another 1 to 3 years depending on results.
