Nikolaus,

I'm with you, but I don't see a solution.

Right now the only way of getting around it is through public and  
university libraries.  Some public libraries have a surprising extent  
of free access to scientific journals.  Or if you have a child in  
university (and they trust you enough to share their access code!) or  
you sign up for a course at a local university, you can get even more  
access...

Of course, I don't condone intellectual piracey.  But its interesting  
to note, that when the U.S.A. declared independance in 1776, they  
also abrogated all British patent rights so that our forefathers  
wouldn't have to worry about  such petty bureaucratic details...
