[Terrapreta] Coal as soil additive

My you guys are a bit sensitive!

The logic behind the question is based on the ready availability of
non-prime or waste streams from coal production AND the desire to increase
soil fertility.

The fact that this approach does not improve the world by tying up carbon
that wasn't already in the ground does not take away from it's merits IF it
can dramatically improve soil fertility. After all it still keeps the carbon
in the ground.

I think the issue of particle size and porous surface area are likely to be
a negative or at least reduce it's effectiveness.

Can anyone actually say from experience whether it has been tried?
