Hi Andrew,

Some where I read that it is illegal to export soil out of Brazil.  If you want to get at samples of Terra Preta de Indio soil from the Amazon, you have to go to the Amazon.  That is why Dr. Johannes Lehmann and Dr. Christoph Steiner do their research there, I think.
