This article appeared in today's paper. I send it to indicate the
magnitude of subsidies available to operations when there is a
connection to governmentally acknowledged problems, in this case, an
agricultural waste product: poultry litter.
Thinking outside the box, if we can tie the interests of soil
improvement with some other pressing social need so that one feeds the
other, we might make much speedier improvement in both soil condition
and the social problem. Lots of financial resources are already being
thrown at various of these problems, and if a processing path and a good
economic case can be made, perhaps some of that financial resource
stream can be captured for the benefit of industrial-scale TP funding.
It may or may not increase land productivity or demonstrate other
benefits that the TP advocates promise, but it should lock up some
elemental carbon for a few millennia.
And that, my friends, is a worthy goal.
