[Terrapreta] What is so bad about global warming?

Maria,

" Each can be had for pennies? "

Where is that?

If you don't live near a quarry ( and allot of farmers don't ), you then have to pay allot for shipping that rock dust, and the price had been going up.

Much the same can be said for charcoal, and many to most biologicals.

3-4 years ago, I had to pay $30( delivered ) for a dinkey 5 lb bag of kelp meal - and that was the best price I could find it as the local garden centers didn't carry it.

Forget greensand - unless I bought it by the 1 lb bags at the local garden center for $6 each, the minimum I could purchase bulk was 1/2 ton, with a $ 0.45 per mile road charge for an estimated 375 mile delivery.

The closest charcoal producer that I know of is 1300 miles away, and when I go on the internet trying to find a kiln that meet's local burning codes ( must be totally contained - and pit's don't count ), I find that the owner of the plans, wants $2500-$3000 for a copy and training to use it once it was built - and then I still have to wait for it to be translated into English from German - and that doesn't even begin to cover the cost of it being built.

A heck of allot of farmers are in the same situation, and by the time they get done trying to figure how to determine how much ( and of what ) they are going to have to buy in order to just take care of 10 acres of land, they are going into a serious case of cardiac shock.

" For pennies ", I'm sorry, but that's as good as " it's in the mail ".

  SNIP

The combination of charcoal, rock dust and biologicals has the power to change farming forever. Each can be obtained for peanuts. Working together they can produce food of astonishing flavor and nutrient value.
