Ben,

That thing ( http://flickr.com/photos/visionshare/310513338/in/set-72157594399374060/ ) looks like not other boiler I have ever seen.

Why the triangle configuration?    How is it supposed to work?    What are all the other cylinders/tanks and the pipes ( to and from the different parts ) for?    What part of it is structural and what part of it is functional?    Six tanks of 4 inches or more in diameter, 75 pipes of about 1 inch connecting 3 of the tanks at angles - Why not just have those pipes running parallel to each other as most conventional boiler do?


While it may be simple to build, it looks over complicated for it's job.    There has to be a reason for it's particular design, what is it?

  In marine boilers are used smoke tubes and all device into great hull.
  This is "scotish type" boilers. Many times with some steps .
   Half part tubes get gasses rear and other part to front having fire box at the end.
  In water tubes your calculus strenght is made based in diameter multiplied by width gives tensile tension. Greater diameter gives more tension in boiler walls. 
  In other way water tubes have less diameter with pressure into then tension is lesser. 
  In one situation water is into tubes in the other smokes.
  This device is more simple and easy to make. 
  All welds are externals easy to control and test by hydraulic pressure.
  In greater diameters welds must be made into boiler and is very difficult.
