ETHOS'S SCHORLARSHIPS FOR THE WOOD ENERGY EXCHANGE IN NICARAGUA

ETHOS (Engineers in Technical and Humanitarian Opportunities of Services) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to facilitate research and the development of appropriate technology by forming collaborative North-South partnerships between universities, research laboratories, engineers, and non-governmental organizations in foreign countries. By working together, these groups aim to create and then disseminate the best available appropriate technology to families in need.

The Nicaraguan Ministry of Energy and Mines will host Second Mesoamerican Wood Energy, Clean and Efficient Cooking Exchange, in the city of Managua, Nicaragua, June 28th and 29th, 2007. The goal of this workshop is to gather professionals from Mesoamerica who are working in the field of improved use of biomass, alternative fuels and clean cooking technologies, indoor air pollution and health, to discuss the latest technological and methodological advancement in these fields. This forum will also bring together professionals from South America and the U.S.

Specific objectives of the forum are:

Share experiences regarding the design, production, dissemination and financing of improved biomass cook stoves, and alternative fuels and technologies.

Share experiences about indoor air pollution (IAP) studies and awareness raising on health impacts and healthy cooking practices.

Exchange lessons regarding sustainable wood energy production.

Identify opportunities for collaboration between the public and private sector, to increase access to improved and appropriate technologies and information by the neediest populations.
