The Jak Stove (Peter Verhaart) February 2002
1. Base.jpg shows the bottom part of the 2 story stove. The idea is to maintain top burning of a stack of fuel. The stove has a mechanism for manually maintaining the top of the fuel pile at the level of the top of the lower stove body. The upper part, a steel cylinder of the same diameter and height is mounted on top of the base, leaving an adjustable slit between the two halves for admitting combustion air.
2. Mechnsm.jpg shows the mechanism for raising the fuel.
3. Raisdbtm.jpg shows the movable piston at the upper end of its travel.
4. Stovparts.jpg shows the other parts of the stove, to concentrate the flames, an insert is lowered into the upper part of the stove. The insert has a flange that just fits into the upper half and is flush with the underside of the upper (outer) cylinder. Just ignore the bottom part of the base in this picture, look at the bolts that enable adjustment of the slit. The picture shows the upper cylinder and the insert
5. Top.jpg, just as it says, shows the top where the optimistic designer expects softly purring blue flames to spout forth.
6. Upper.jpg, finally shows reality, smoke.
