Crispin:

    1. I have a paper accepted (presumably in Volume 5). Topic partially
on charcoal-making stoves - mostly on the terra preta concept.

    2. I will try to report back to "stoves" and "terrapreta" on the ISES
conference.

    3. Love to communicate off-line (for purposes of meeting) with anyone
else on these two lists who will also be there. My guess (unfortunately) is
that I may be the only one interested in either topic - but that is my
reason for going.

Ron

Dear Friends

Birte Kock forwarded a report from Torben Esbensen on the preparation for
the 2007 meeting of ISES which takes place in September. An abridged report
is pasted below. The publication we might be most interested in is Volume 5
of the proceedings.

Crispin

Report on ISES SWC 2007 in Beijing

.In general the preparations are going well, and it seems to be a successful
congress in Beijing on September 18-21, 2007.

The Congress will have 620 presentations and the organizers are expecting
about 1.000 participants. The exhibition area is sold out. The Final
Programme is under preparation.

1. Congress Center, locations

The Beijing International Convention Center is located in the
Northern part of Beijing with the Olympic Games Park and the "Nest-Station"
just across the street. The Beijing Continental Grand Hotel is in
conjunction with the Convention Center.

The result and the building models from the "International Solar
Building Design Competition" will be exhibited in the lobby between the
session rooms. The competition took place earlier this summer.

2. Exhibition

The trade exhibition area of 3.000 m² within the convention center
is totally sold out. There will be around 100 exhibitors with 21 from
abroad. The income from the exhibition is important to balance the congress
budget.

3. Rooms for ISES meeting and AGM

We decided to move the time for the ISES AGM on Wednesday September
19 from 12.45 to 17.45 in room 201A. The reason is that lunch break from
12.30-13.30 will take place via coupons in 3 different restaurants at the
conjunction hotel.

4. Farrington Daniels Lecture, ISES Awards and Closing Session

The luncheon banquet will be on Friday from 12.00 - 14.30 and will
include the following program:

* Lunch banquet served at tables organized in the big Conference Hall
1 with cultural entertainment (45 min.)
* Review of the conference (30 min.) by:
- Solar Building (Dieter Holm)
- Solar Thermal (Klaus Vajen)
- Solar PV (Zhao Yuwen)
* Presentation of the ISES Awards (15 min.)
* Farrington Daniels Award Lecture (30 min.)
* Hand-over the flag and presentation of SWC 2009 (15 min.)
* Closing Speech (10 min.)

Thursday September 20 at 19.30: Peking Opera performance in the big
Convention Hall 1

6. Additional dinners for the ISES Board

- Saturday September 15 at 19.00: Dinner by invitation from the
Chinese Organisers.
- Sunday September 16 at 19.30: Dinner by invitation from ISES HQ.
- Monday September 17 at 19.30: Dinner buffet in the Banquet Room at
the Beijing

There will be 620 presentations during the Congress:

* 30 invited speakers, organised by Torben E.
* 380 oral presentations organised in 12 parallel sessions during the
4 days.
* 210 poster presentations organised in 20 sessions in parallel to the
oral sessions but not conflicting with the same topic.
* About 10 Forums organised by Chinese specialists in specific topics:
short presentations and mainly discussions.

Each oral session will have one international chairperson and one
chairperson from China.
Torben E. accepted to select the international chairpersons for each
session among Board
members present and international speakers, so please be prepared to
accept an invitation.

8. Proceedings and publications

* There will be a detailed Final Programme.
* There will not be a Book of Abstracts.
* There will be a CD-rom with all the papers in the conference bag.
* There will be 5 volumes of printed proceedings available at the
registration, in total 3.000 pages.

Volume 1: Invited papers + Solar Society + Solar Buildings.
Volume 2: Solar Collector Technologies.
Volume 3: PV Technologies.
Volume 4: Solar Thermal Systems.
