[Terrapreta] Catalyst: Carbon Bigfoot

Whoa up there Sean! If you take the CO2 out of the atmosphere to improve the
health of soil, there will be decreasing returns. Wouldn't we be able to
effect greater improvements if we keep burning the oil and coal? Lets make
those greenhouse gases our friends.

Hi Lou,

That is exactly what I am saying! Everyone on this planet needs to reduce
their emissions footprint to much less than half of what it is now, do this
now, and continue that until they turn into carbon dust themselves. We, the
developed world, also need to pay poor people, in the undeveloped world, to
help us achieve a radical change in how we acquire energy. Carbon based
energy has to be a "dirty" word and before it is made illegal, it needs to
be taxed and/or fined heavily. Carbon dioxide-CO2 and other unnaturally
produced green house gases are the enemy and pumping them into the air has
got to stop!

We need to learn and then we need to teach ways to get carbon out of the
atmosphere. Terra Preta has this vast potential to sequester carbon and at
the same time improve the health of soils and the lives of people around the
world.

Regards,

SKB

WOW, I've studied this message several times and I'm still not sure I get
the correct drift. If you are saying that there is no mileage in guilt and
that we need to have both a lessening of individual impacts AND credits to
support necessary but not presently profitable activities -- then, I really
agree.

Hi Lou, Michael,

The message I heard is that it is far more important for all of us to make
real and deep reductions (40% from 1997 by 2020) in our carbon emissions
footprint, than it is for us to concern ourselves that paying for carbon
trading credits is merely guilt money.

Good additional links too.

The Aussies are doing a great media job, almost unique.
