[Terrapreta] Recycling pyrolysis smoke back into bio-char

Thanks to Tom Miles, Michael Bailes, Sean Barry and others for their
responses to me, re above

The background to my inquiry:...

I work in association with NGOs, bilateral and multilateral organisations
who are managing development aid programs (see www.mande.co.uk).

There is an emerging opportunity for poor rural communities in Africa and
Asia to participate in (official) carbon trading and (voluntary) carbon
offset markets, by selling carbon credits via intermediaries that can
aggregate and mediate supply and demand. Those carbon credits could arise
from a number of practices e.g. biofuel production, new growth forestry and
bio-char production. Ideally they should have locally beneficial effects (
e.g. increased soil fertility), as well as earn an "export" income

I am trying to interest a number of aid organisations that I am in contact
with in the potential of bio-char. But I need to be able to present useful
information. I am seeking the following types of information:
- effecient low tech ways of producing bio-char e.g solar energy or more
effecient uses of bio-mass as fuel for the pyrolysis process
- low tech processes that maximise the number of useful products that can be
used, in addition tobio-char for carbon credits e.g. smoke / liquid products
useful as fertiliser, and gasses or liquids that have fuel value
- information on risks, e.g. from handling the processes and products, or
mis-applying bio-char to soils with negative efects on fertility
- information on appropriate and inappropriate feedstock into the pyrolysis
process.
