You'll find the folowing references to rice husk charcoal on the Terra Preta
website:

On the "Materials" tab select "Rice Husk" in the left menu under Biomass. It
looks like there is current work at Cornell. Dr. Ogawa in Japan is another
reference.

    Can you supply any (preferably web-based) references on this observation
about rice hull charcoal?  This could be a very important insight if true.
