While listening to the talks presented at a recent Oxford University

conference on climate change and the fate of the Amazon

I learned an interesting fact -- the 30 countries of the OECD

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OECD#Members -- presently subsidize

their agriculture at the level of one billion dollars (USD) EACH DAY

This is the context of political-economy into which we are trying to

place terra preta.
