all the papers from the conference last month are now online. see here:
http://gasification.org/Presentations/2007.htm. papers from previously
years are online too.

this conference focusses on gasification applications and issues for large
scale petrochemical operations. it is somewhat of a Big Oil/Coal gathering
on gasification. not an academic or r and d focussed gathering. but more
of an operational and business focussed gathering.

it was deeply interesting to hear the similarities and differences in their
work as compared to small scale biomass gasification. huge focusses on coal
to liquid HC and hydrogen fuels, co2 sequestration, rising china, virtual
plant modelling, and combined coal/biomass feeds to lower the GHG footprint
of coal power and liquid fuel processes.

i stood up and asked if the combined coal / biomass schemes are considering
terra preta to increase the impact of the biomass portion of the feed. the
presenter, the head of the national energy technology labratories, the us
military energy research group, had never heard of it, nor had anyone else
on the coal / biomass panel. seems TP has not risen as quickly in large
petrochemical circles as elsewhere.

at some point i'll write a summary of some of my main takeaways from the
conference. until then, here are all the papers. a survey of just the
summaries of each will give a good orientation.

are there any other gasification or TP relevant upcoming conferences that we
should know about?
