Hi My 'terrpreta' compatriots,
Everybody knows we are paddling upstream now with the whole "Terra Preta" issue, right? Most of our current agricultural practices degrade soils and resulting crop productivity from those soils faster than ever before in all of human history. Current outputs of GHG (CO2, CH4, and N2O) from human activity (primarily the burning of 300 million year old fossil fuels) are greater now and rising faster now, than in all of human history. Current population is greater now and growing faster now, than in all of human history. This is the stream of problems we are fighting against.
Sometimes, this torrent of misguided activity by the human race can be overwhelming. Are we paddling up Niagara Falls?! One could fairly question, if we will ever be able to turn the tide on any of these problems?
So, I have to say, I appreciate greatly the rapport we all have on this list and the vigor of the discussions we have, while we strive toward our common goals. It helps me to stay believing, too, that we will, by synergy, solve the problems we encounter, and we will succeed in making the Terra Preta phenomenon help us solve these great world problems.
Row on! Row on!
Regards,
SKB
