Hi Jim,
 
I would condition half of your high temperature charcoal (Activated  1500C, 
no VM) with finished compost /a little soil / or maybe  Mycorrhizae Inoculents;

and because of the alcohol/carbon , maybe spray on a soluble fertilizer
