well, my 3-finger typing screwed that up right in the first paragraph, which should read:
please show some restraint and discipline before burning up bandwidth debating issues we CAN'T resolve.

i agree with moderator michael. please show some restraint and discipline before burning up bandwidth debating issues we can resolve. facts are useful. arguments are boring, wasteful and generally fruitless.

my request is if anyone wants to argue GW data and theory, do it offline, not on this list. if anyone wants to post important notices of the evolution of our understanding of this serious issue, just give us the facts.

for terra preta, the reality is terra preta has little to do with global warming. and although terra preta is an excellent foundation for a sustainable food system, by itself, biochar will never get started or go very far in the current oil-addicted, corporate-manipulated marketplace.

in the 80s i helped start the organic food system, and its certification system, and even though organic farming is far more ecologically benign than chemical-dependent agribusiness, i know organic farming only grew because of strong, steady consumers demand. but convincing those same consumers to buy "carbon-negative" food" from biochar-enriched soil will be a far more challenging education and promotion effort.

however, the #1 reason terra preta is likely to spread rapidly and globaly is climate change, and the need to sequester carbon. necessity remains the mother of invention, and climate change injects urgency as well as necessity into the equation.

but how about selling those same consumers "nutrient dense" food?

I just posted this separately but it should have gone in this conversation:

Many scientists say we may only have 10 to 20 years to slow down climate change. Do you believe that?
Kamen: I'm not competent to give an answer to that. The good news is, instead of having great debate, why don't we all just say, let's be more efficient, let's use less fuel and do less damage to the environment. Let's make it a goal that we will continue to minimize all these negative effects, and we all win with it.

It is just That GW arguments can get bogged down with 'Denialists' Vrs 'Doomsdayists'.

There are plenty of forums to argue those cases and I wouldn't like to see this forum/list bogged down in endless arguments one way or the other.

Arguments about the relevance and effectiveness of of TP and charcoal to GW, yes; but not general Global Warming issues and debates.
