I realize that there are several real engineers on this list.  For  
those of us aspiring wannebe engineers like me, have we all  
discovered the on-line Engineering Tool Box?

I just checked it for the specific heat of various materials.  The  
specific heat of charcoal is only 1/4 that of water, i.e. 0.24.  Thus  
it would take four times as much weight of charcoal to heat water as  
I assumed.
