Depends on what you mean by "stand up to".
Damn sight cheaper for a start. Coat it with rubber and it would likely 
last quite a while. Close tolerances don't seem to be a requirement, as 
the lumps of charcoal considered seem to be quite big. Titanium is nice 
in high temperature situations, which would not be the case when pumping 
slurry in a planter.
