Combined the US and Brazil produce 70 percent of the world's ethanol
There is a 54 cent per gallon tariff on imported ethanol by the US. In
spite of this the US imported more than 400 million gallons of ethanol
from Brazil. Currently the US is seeking a 'partnership' , ie sharing
research currently underway on cellulosic ethanol but reduction in
tariff is unlikely to occur before next administration. Article here
