I never suggested that char should replace coal as it comes out of the ground - that realy would be counter productive. OTOH, refilling old non-productive mines ( be they coal, gold, or any other matterial ), would serve double duty. It would sequester carbon, and it would limit cave-in's and the assoseated problems.
